Kentucky’s lake system began when the completion of Kentucky Dam, the longest dam at 8,422 feet on the Tennessee River in the Tennessee Valley Authority system was finished. The 184 mile Kentucky Lake is bordered on the east by “Land Between the Lakes,” one of Kentucky’s most visited attractions. Inside this 170,000 acre play land, you can live out any type of outdoor recreational activity imaginable.
Listed as one of the top places to retire in the nation, Kentucky Lake , Marshall County, is home to low-cost housing, JACHO accredited medical and healthcare facilities, moderate temperatures ranging from mid 40’s to low 90’s, a gracious neighborly way of life, and many outdoor recreation opportunities.

Kentucky’s nine distinct regions offer
the visitor a bounty of sights, scenery and activities from which to choose. Kentucky's geographical diversity encompasses the mountains of the eastern Appalachians, the lakes and rivers in the western part of the state and the rolling hills of the Central Kentucky Bluegrass. The state is known for bourbon, thoroughbreds, and beautiful state parks where every sunrise and sunset is a new experience; unique festivals, celebrating everything from bluegrass music to barbecue, and historic sites, paying tribute to Daniel Boone, George Rogers Clark, Henry Clay, Abraham Lincoln and others who helped forge Kentucky's destiny are just some of what you’ll find in here.
Spurred by a renewed focus from the State Park system, golf now is becoming a larger part of Kentucky's recreational reputation. With 19 State Park golf courses, there is sure to be something for everyone. Famed since 2001, the eight Signature Series courses are situated in every region of the state, offer exciting championship play amid the pastoral beauty of the "nation’s finest" park system. Each course offers an outstanding golf experience for players of all ages. Four of the Signature Series courses; Grayson Lake, Pine Mountain, Dale Hollow, and Yatesville Lake, have received national awards from Golf Digest as “Best New Affordable Public Courses”.

You know about the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Kentucky bourbon. Those are famous all over the world. When you come to Kentucky, you can see where the Derby is run, where Kentucky Fried Chicken was created, and where Kentucky bourbon is distilled.

You'll also be able to enjoy the Kentucky you don't know. For example, climb through Mammoth Cave, the longest cave system in the world. Swim, boat, or fish in thousands of miles of lakes, rivers and streams. Stand beside Cumberland Falls, the only place in the Northern Hemisphere where you can see a regularly occurring moonbow.
You also will be able to learn about Kentucky’s history. You can visit the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest American presidents. You also can tour the museum of Muhammad Ali, the former heavyweight boxer known around the world as "The Greatest."
