Morro Bay is well known for the famous picture of the domed rock rising up out of the Pacific Ocean. Morro Rock is said to be one of nine distinctive formations (nine sisters) and the most distinctively recognizable. The ninth formation lies hidden under the beauty of the blue water submerged at the bottom of the ocean floor. The Nine Sisters are a series of ancient volcanic peaks, which form a backdrop for the cities of San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. This also creates a dividing line between Los Osos Valley and Chorro Valley. These peaks extend from Islay Hill , within the city of San Luis Obispo, to Morro Rock, often called the “Gibraltar of the Pacific” standing 576 feet above sea level. The peaks are aptly named the Nine Sisters because they are all in a row and in close proximity. The nine peaks have had their names designated on U.S. Geological Survey maps since 1964.
Oceanside golf, kayaking, sailing, hiking, bird watching, deep sea fishing, surfing, biking, horseback riding, and beautiful sunsets will satisfy the inner child within. Perhaps you are looking for quiet solitude in the sun to recharge from a busy life, or fancy yourself shopping and dining until you’re dizzy with glee. The Pacific will do this to you! You’ll not be disappointed in any of your chosen activities at Morro Bay.

With only a three hour drive from Los Angeles from the south and San Francisco from the north, Morro Bay is the perfect in between place. Many have said that healing and restorative powers can be felt in the area of the Morro Rock. The air is fresh and clean and carries a light scent of sea salt. Just the beauty of this area makes you feel alive! Hospitality is second nature. With over 900 rooms and more than 50 restaurants ranging from reasonable to resplendent, you’ll always find what you’re looking for and the people of the bay will provide the atmosphere. Alongside being accommodating, the area is filled with artisans who feature their art in a variety of the shops around the district. Set aside a few hours just to gaze upon the vast array of art displayed throughout this area.
Morro Bay is the perfect place to stay for your wine adventure. Located midway between the local wine regions of San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles, you can get to either place quickly and easily .To make the most of your trip, a visit should be made to Morro Bay’s own winery, Aron Hill Vineyard & Tasting Room which is the only location to purchase these fine wines

Morro Bay offers a beautiful Museum of Natural History located in Morro Bay State Park. The museum sponsors activities for all ages; nature walks, lectures, a nature gift shop, docent led tours, special events through out the year, and wonderful exhibits which are as informative as they are fun. Besides the museums, the artisans, and nature, you’ll discover other natural and man made wonders. One of which is the Hearst Castle and its fabulous flag room. A major tourist attraction, the Hearst Castle draws over a million visitors a year

Whatever the season is, you won’t be disappointed in what you’ll find at Morro Bay. Winter brings annual one day events with vendors around the world converging upon the bay to show their wares. Winter celebrations are held for the returning of the wintering birds, and the lighting of the parks during the month of December. The fall season centers on the main fishing pier and waterfront. During this time its “wine and seafood faire.” Spring and summer will find most people out on the beaches and in the water. Beyond the Hearst Castle, just up the coastline you’ll see thousands of elephant seals congregating on the beaches. I enjoyed sitting and photographing these majestic animals for over an hour. The elephant seals, coastal birds, and sea life are just a smattering of nature’s elements you’ll find. Pack a picnic, bring your camera, and spend time with these outdoor giants. Just remember all wildlife are “wild.” So photograph from a safe distance!
Morro Bay is just one area of the United States where all of life is brought together, nature, water, sun, and people. No matter what your age, Morro Bay has something for you! Happy Traveling!
