The Optima GarageHome
Toy Hauler

Lazelle Jones

Located southeast of Macon, Georgia, Optima Aluminum Trailers builds a motorized toy hauler that is in a class by itself.  Using the Freightliner Columbia and M2 Chassis’ as the platforms of choice, this all welded aluminum unit marries the best in the luxury RV lifestyle with the ability to load and haul up to 18,000 pounds of toys,

cars, etc.

The versital toy hauler can also tow another 40,000 pounds of  trailer. The Optima  GarageHome is available in 40’ and 45’ lengths.

The 450 hp turbo charged Mercedes diesel engine that develops 1500 lb. Ft. torque is the heart and soul of the Freightliner platform.  Equipped with a fully automatic 10-speed Eaton Transmission, the chassis can be equipped with either a single rear drive axle or a twin rear axle configuration with the dual axle not simply being a tag-axle (both rear axles are live). Torque from the engine is delivered to the road via a total of eight rear axle tires through both rear axles.

Standard equipment is a hydraulic lift with an area that measures 92” X 90”.  It is capable of lifting 1,600 pounds of toys from ground level up into the cargo bay.  An optional 6,000 pound lift is offered for those who may want to load a full size automobile in the cargo bar. An aluminum roll down door closes the interior cargo area to the outside world.  The hydraulic lift folds up and stows against the rear of the unit.  The GarageHome includes a standard interior wall and passage way door that sequesters the luxury living quarters up front from the hauler cargo area in the back.  Optional appointments in the cargo area can include aluminum storage cabinets.  How this area can be appointed is limited only by the imagination.  One feature that is a must for the serious toy enthusiast is the refueling station.  It includes a fill nozzle on the curbside at the rear of the unit and comes equipped with an electric driven fuel transfer pump and electric timer that automatically shuts off after fifteen minutes.  The refueling system can be equipped with a 100 gallon fuel tank.

Utilities include a standard 10 kW diesel auxiliary generator that provides all of the electrical power necessary to enjoy days on end of stand-alone toy hauler / RV camping.  It is of sufficient size to support a small electrical arc welder so that field repairs to toys can be made if needed.  An optional 12 kW auxiliary generator is available. This unit is wired for 50amp shore power.  The fresh water tank is humongous (holding 100 gallons), while the waste/gray holding tanks together hold a total of 120 gallons.  The GarageHome includes two 15,000 BTU roof air conditions (with heat pumps) that are centrally ducted and a 30,000 BTU forced air furnace.  The LP fuel source is a twenty six gallon LP tank.

How the GarageHome is constructed merits a look/see.  Four-inch tubular aluminum members are used to create the precision jig-built roof and wall infrastructures. The walls and roof are insulated with residential style insulation.  The fastener-less exterior skin features smooth aluminum.  The roof exterior is backed with 1/8” aluminum plate which makes it a full walk-on roof.  A rugged welded ladder provides access to the roof.  Vapor barriers are included.  The interior walls and ceiling are dressed with a padded material.

The floor is made of aluminum and ¾” plywood and features cargo tie-downs rated at 6,000 pounds, each. The GarageHome design includes a flat interior floor (the cockpit is at the same level as the salon area, which means there is no stepping up or down when transitioning between these two venues.  Exterior paint and graphics includes 4 layers of paint and a top dressing of hand rubbed clear coat.  Special paint schemes are accommodated as are unique interiors.  This can include different size cargo areas.

The interior height and width are 86” X 97-3/4”, respectively.  The GarageHome can include two slide-out rooms that articulate in and out via electric/hydraulic mechanisms.  The GarageHome can be equipped with two curbside entry doors.  The forward entryway provides ingress into the living area.  The optional rear entry provides access directly into the rear cargo area.  The aluminum exterior storage bays are lined, lighted and lockable. A 4-point auto leveling system is standard.

Ceramic tile, granite and plush carpeting are among the choices the client makes.  LCD televisions, satellite dish, home entertainment package and an 1800 watt inverter to power said appointments off the 4 battery house battery pack are standard.  The galley includes a 10 cubic foot refrigerator with icemaker, convection microwave oven, 2-burner electric cook-top and mega amounts of cabinetry and drawers.  Four standard interior décor packages are offered along with six different kinds of finished woods. Custom requests are routinely handled at Optima.  a Flexsteel sofa sleeper, dinette that converts into a sleeping quarter and a unit wide bath that includes a ceramic toilet, lavvy/counter/cabinet, medicine cabinet, and a standard (standup) height quarter round shower are included.  The cab-over area provides a sleeping quarter.

For those who demand a rugged, exceptionally well built toy hauler that is capable of yielding the ultimate in luxury RV living, the GarageHome merits attention.  The MSRP begins at about $232,500. Happy Traveling!
