The Black Diamond:

A Toy Hauler by Holiday Rambler

Lazelle Jones

The BD260FQB Black Diamond by Holiday Rambler is a towable RV that instantly turns the full size pickup truck and many larger SUVs into instruments of fun and recreation.  This toy hauler permits the American family to immediately begin enjoying the passionate and exciting world of ATVs, motorcycles and dune buggies while permitting them to immerse themselves in the luxury RV lifestyle.

Three points need to be underscored.  There exist a huge number of vehicles that yield the towing capacity to tow the Black Diamond.  In part this is due to how it is built.  The walls and roof are laminated structures with tubular aluminum members, with block foam insulation that is cut to fit between the tubular members. The interior walls are vinyl dressed Luan panel.  The exterior is fiberglass.  This toy hauler rides on twin 5,200 lb. axles that are married to a 10” I-beam chassis with steel outriggers. The suspension is leaf spring.

The roof slopes from the rear to the front to facilitate drainage and provide better towing characteristics.  A very important exterior feature t is the bullet or cone shaped nose angles in parallel with the V-shape trailer tongue, a design that parts the air and captures what here-to-fore has been an unused area. This enclosed nose area yields utility and functionality and houses three LPG tanks and the house battery that are accessible through a door. Three removable 20-lb. LP bottles (the same kind that can be removed and swapped out at a Wal-Mart) are the source of LP.  This is good stuff!

Storage in the inside nose area is also accessible from forward stateroom. Here is housed a television, cabinets and wardrobe.  The queen bed is a island style configuration that permits you to move around the bed, making it easy to get into bed, make the bed, access the floor to ceiling wardrobe and reach items stowed in the cabinet complex. Good Job Holiday Rambler!

The interior cargo bay is huge, measuring on the 148” on the street side 148” and 160” on the curbside.  The width is 96”.  Cargo tie downs lace the deck (each is rated at 2,500 lbs.).  This Black Diamond is capable of hauling products like four Kawasaki ATVs or five motorcycles, or some combination there- of.  The cargo deck is dressed with a gas and oil resistant material.  There is also storage capacity below the front queen bed that is accessed from outside.

This BD260FQB Black Diamond has a total cargo carrying capacity of 5,172 pounds.  The three huge holding tanks (fresh, gray, waste) have capacities of 110, 40 and 40 gallons, respectively.  Even with the fresh water tank filled (approximately 1,000 pounds) the remaining cargo carrying capacity is a super respectable 4,000-plus pounds.  The Black Diamond can be equipped with an optional 30-gallon refueling station that includes a hose, nozzle, electric pump and an automatic shut off valve controlled by a timer.  This same large 30-gallon fuel tank is also used as the fuel source for the optional 4.0kW auxiliary generator. Sweet!

With the toys off loaded the cargo area instantly becomes a massive residential area.  Padded and upholstered sofa and dinette fold down from the wall and quickly convert into sleeping quarters.  Stacked double queen size beds (one is standard, the second is optional) remain tucked against the ceiling and are lowered and raised at the touch of a switch.  All total, the Black Diamond BD260FQB can comfortably sleep up to ten for the night. An optional rear screen permits ventilation when the back wall/loading ramp is down.

Over head storage compartments are open on the front and feature cargo netting to retain and keep gear like riding helmets, boots, duffel bags, etc. in place. Large tinted windows provide natural outside light the rear ramp when door is closed.  The curbside entry way is located forward of the dinette.  Positioned forward of the entry is the full service galley that sits across from the large residential bath and double door refrigerator. The full service dry bath is equipped with a full size standup shower that is a very welcome feature after a dusty trail ride.  HVAC includes a 30M BTU forced air furnace and an optional roof air conditioner.  Be it an RV resort or dry camping a million miles from the maddening crowd, the Black Diamond stands ready to be enjoyed.  The only thing missing is you.  Happy traveling!
