The 2006 Alumascape

Fifth Wheel

Lazelle Jones

Holiday Rambler continues to identify and implement product improvements throughout the model year.  Case in point is the list of visual and functional enhancements that have been added to the 2006 Alumascape Fifth Wheel.  Holiday Rambler calls this list of improvements the Alumascape Glitz Package and rightly so for they are substantial and together they add equity to a product that already sizzles.  Equally important is the fact that of the eight-mid year enhancements made to the Alumascape Fifth Wheel, all but one is included as standard equipment.

The one new enhancement that is offered as an option is the addition of a second choice of wood that can be chosen for the interior cabinetry and wood working.  It is stained cherry and has been added expressly for those who want and prefer a warmer and richer interior tone. All eight mid-year enhancements find their genesis in Holiday Rambler’s top-of-the-line luxury Presidential product line, where attention to aesthetics is held at a premium and visual correctness is attended to with great care.

The Alumascape is available in ten different floor plans, with exterior lengths that range from 29’ up to 35’.  Used in conjunction with a tow vehicle like the Dodge Ram and a Reese Products  fifth wheel hitch, the end result is a perfect marriage, This luxury fifth wheel can be enjoyed with the two, three or four slide-out rooms and it is in the area of slide-outs that one of the significant interior enhancements can be found.  Regardless of the type of wood the customer chooses for the interior cabinetry and trim, the fascia that dresses and surrounds the leading edge – across the top and down both sides – of every slide-out room now incorporates an inlay design.  Created by the craftsmen who specialize in wood working, this new fascia features a fluted insert and decorative appliqué corner blocks, with inlay elements that include an elegant rope type design, the kind often found on fine furniture. The section of fascia that spans the two vertical end pieces has been slightly arched, a look that yields the impression of an even greater dimension between the floor and the ceiling.

It is Holiday Rambler’s obsession with correctly accessorizing the interior that keeps them on the cusp of design excellence.  Select interior pieces of Alumascape hardware have been added that feature a brushed nickel finish, which again is reminiscent of the elegance found in Holiday Ramblers up-scale Presidential product line. These include a brushed nickel based ceiling fan and a modern brushed nickel residential high rise faucet with sprayer.

Another upgrade that speaks volumes about Holiday Rambler’s focus on eye appeal and one that is also a plus when it comes to functionality and maintenance, involves the faux ceramic composite tile that is now used in the galley and the entry way.  This new faux ceramic tile features individual pieces of composite tile that interlock together.  This new composite tile is thicker than roll-out composite material, a feature that yields improved insulating characteristics and resistance to wear in high traffic areas.  But there is another plus as well.  When installed the appearance presented is one of individually laid tiles that have been grouted in place.

The salon area includes several enhancements.  Several select cabinet doors now include decorative glass inserts.  A stylish residential camel back sofa has been included in the living area, while in the stateroom a color coordinated decorative headboard now sits at the head of the king size bed.

A new feature that’s not only attractive but one that is functional, is the addition in the entry way of a padded, color coordinated trim piece across the top of the door frame.  What this does is protect those very tall individuals whose heads may accidentally come in contact with the door frame.

The Alumascape Fifth Wheel features Holiday Rambler’s patented Alumaframe® Construction.  Alumaframe Construction employs interlocking C-channel aircraft grade aluminum structural members and at the point where the horizontal and vertical members intersect they are welded.  For strength holes are added to each structural member, a design that also provides the penetrations through which the electrical wiring is run.  Inside the grid pattern formed by the intersecting structural members, residential insulation is cut to fit and installed.  A vapor barrier is added and to prevent the migration of temperature differences - through the structural members - between the interior and outside, a thin sheet of foam core insulation is laid.  The interior is vinyl dressed Luuan panel, while the outside is dressed with aircraft grade aluminum.

The walls are five layers while the ceiling is a nine layer structure.  The floor is welded tubular aluminum with block foam that is placed in between the structural members.  A solid core interior floor is placed on top and the entire floor structure is vacuum laminated together.  Darco – a material that is impervious to moisture and dust - is placed on the roadside of the floor structure as a barrier against moisture, dust and debris.

The Alumascape Fifth Wheel is offered at a Mfg. Base Suggested Retail Price beginning at $40,500.  For a dealer near you call 800-245-4778 or visit the Holiday Rambler website noted above.  Happy Traveling!
