There are reasons why NASCAR Cup racing greats like Dale Earnhardt, Jr.; Jimmy Johnson, Darrell Waltrup and the late great Dale Earnhardt, elect to use and embrace the million-dollar plus luxury coaches designed and built by Newell Coach. Simply put, Newell Coaches are not only on the cusp of elegance in design (inside and out), but the sophistication and precision that goes into designing and building a Newell represents state-of-the-art engineering and cutting edge technology.
Innovations found on Newell’s latest iteration (P2000i) include a new suspension system; a higher horsepower/torque diesel engine; a 10-speed transmission; new roof lines along with new front and rear caps; frameless windows; a rear stateroom Murphy-bed option and a weight saving (completely enclosed) 15kW transverse mounted PowerTech diesel auxiliary generator.
The C15 Caterpillar diesel that develops 625 horsepower and yields 2050 ft. lbs. torque powers this 59,500 GVWR coach. It is also capable of towing another 20,000 pounds. Newell joins the C15 with German technology (a ZF AS-Tronic 10-speed transmission). This combo utilizes a computer that (at every point along the operating spectrum) reads the load, speed, engine rpm, throttle position and then on a real-time basis selects the gear that best fits the actual operating requirements. On long day interstate cruises averaging 65 mph, 7.0 mpg has been achieved. With its 208 gallon fuel tank, the P2000i is capable of covering great distances between fuel stops. This 102” wide unit is 45’ long and comes equipped with four slide-out rooms. Nearly 6,000 lbs. of cargo and passenger carrying capacity is available.
Drivers are disarmed by the uncomplicated instrumentation and the friendly configuration of the controls, which includes a Smart Wheel that controls several functions at the touch of a button on the face of the steering wheel. There is also a driver controlled dash wide electric shade.
Excellence in ride is attributed to the suspension system (also by ZF) that includes independent front suspension; air bags for all three axles (two on the steer axle, four on the drive axle and two on the tag axle); an active steering tag axle; calibrated shock absorbers; disc airbrakes and an active/steer-able tag axle. Through hydraulics, once the front wheels reach five degrees of turn the tag axle begins to articulate (up to 23-degrees) in direct proportion to the front wheels. With the steer -able tag the turning radius is reduced from 44’ to 37’.
Pneumatic seals that surround each of the slide-out rooms inflate (in both the extended and retracted positions) to create an air tight seal. These seals along with the solidly attached linear bearings on which each slide-out is mounted, add rigidity to the wall when motoring down the road.
Four 13,500 BTU roof mounted air conditioners (w/heat pumps) deliver temperature controlled air to four zones in the coach. However, you typically cannot see the roof AC’s from the ground because of the way the exterior roof lines are configured (a real aesthetic plus). An Aqua-Hot System provides heating and domestic hot water.

When equipped with the Murphy-bed, the rear stateroom’s two slide-outs permit the creation of a second daytime salon area. The bed includes a memory foam queen size mattress that when folded up in the closed position provides unfettered access to the rear coach wide bath.
The Newell P2000i features a front cap that was a joint effort with the design/engineering experts at Porsche Design. It includes a single piece windshield (no center post) that further enhances what is already a symmetrically pleasing exterior presentation. The headlights are stacked, incorporating the latest high performance Xenon gas-discharge technology. Tinted dual pane flush-mounted frameless windows are featured throughout.
This all-electric coach includes an electric cook top, DishDrawer dish washer, massive floor to ceiling refrigerator/freezer (with two huge freezer drawers at the bottom), a massive floor to ceiling pantry, sculptured carpet, leather upholstery, etc. etc. etc., Yes, Newell continues to take excellence in design to the next level. Newell uses the finest fabrics, natural and composite surfaces and elegant woods and materials from around the world. A good example to their attention to elegance is the granite stairway that leads up to the interior. The main entry door is a push button air operated design that was also perfected in Europe in demanding passenger bus applications.
During February and early March, Newell will be presenting the P2000i at Outdoor Resorts Motorcoach Country Club in Indio, California.. A luxury resort that offers golf, tennis and casual boating and was designed specifically for the luxury motor coach aficionado, this resort is the ideal setting in which to enjoy this elegant motor coach lifestyle. Happy Traveling!
