The Tango:  286RBSS - A Travel Trailer

Lazelle Jones

Offered by Pacific Coach Works   the Tango’s clean exterior lines and smart uncomplicated graphics is aesthetically correct and very pleasing to the eye.   Available in several innovative floor plans, the Tango and in this case the 286RBSS features a full litinay of appointments that underscore today’s luxury RV lifestyle.  The creative interior configuration yields mega amounts of functionality and the utility found both inside and outside simply underscores the creative genius that’s gone into its design and development.

With an MSRP of about $27,000 (this includes a special package of appointments) this nicely equipped unit provides a lot bang for the hard earned buck.  With an overall length of 28.5’ and a width of 8’ the Tango 286RBSS includes a huge street side battery powered electric slide-out that houses a plush sofa that makes into a sleeping quarter and a bench style dinette that also converts quickly to accommodate guests for the night

With at GVWR of 10,000 lbs. the 286RBSS Tango yields a cargo carrying capacity of about 3,500 lbs. The holding tanks (fresh, gray and waste) have capacities of 50, 45 and 30 gallons, respectively.  The hitch weight is rated at 740  pounds,  Mounted on a Lippert I-beam chassis with dual Lippert Axles, leaf spring suspension and  radial tires,  the Tango 286RBSS is designed to be towed by full size pickup trucks and SUVs.  An electronic brake controller is required and a load leveling device is recommended.

A huge front basement unit wide storage bay yields a tremendous amount of storage where long or bulky objects can be easily stowed and removed and by adding a slide-out tray it becomes even easier.  Other important exterior features are large scissor type stabilizer jacks (one for each corner of the unit) that extend for stability when a campsite is reached. A ladder leads up to the full length walk on roof.   The front end cap is dressed with a protective coating that prevents damage from road debris. The push button electric patio awning does not require support poles even when fully extended.  All-weather speakers are mounted on the patio wall so that the interior entertainment center (CD/AM/FM) can be enjoyed outside. Impervious to moisture, these speakers will not be damaged by weather.

Construction features pinch rolled laminated walls that include welded tubular aluminum members with cut-to-fit block foam insulation between the members.  The interior walls are wood panel covered with a low maintenance vinyl.  The exterior side of the walls is high gloss gel coat fiberglass.  The roof includes a bow truss system that is dressed with an exterior membrane. The floor structure is wood framed with the members drilled, glued and screwed together (no staples).  Residential style fiberglass insulation lines the inside of the floor.  The underside is dressed with Darco, a membrane that is impervious to dirt and moisture.  A crush type automotive bulb seal surrounds every window.

The Tango (with the optional heated holding tank package) is capable of yielding a comfortable habitat during a three season window (spring, summer and fall).  A direct duct roof air conditioner and an LP forced air furnace provide the cooling and heating. Wired for 30 amp shore power, an aftermarket generator can operate all systems under primitive RV camping conditions.  Two LPG tanks with automatic and crossover and a single house battery (an optional second house battery is available) are tongue mounted between the front cap and the manual hitch jack.  Tango dealers offer aftermarket electric hitch jacks.

The solid interior walls between the forward stateroom, mid ship galley/living/dining areas and the rear unit wide bathroom create totally separate and private areas.  Two solid doors on each side of the stateroom interior wall provide two paths between the stateroom and the living area.  The queen size island bed permits full access around the bed, with a shelf complex on the interior wall at the foot of the bed.  On the living area side of this interior wall the entertainment center is located.

Massive storage is found below the queen size bed (accessible via pneumatic assisted struts that raise and lower the bed).  Wardrobes, roll out drawers, overhead cabinets and nightstands round out stateroom furnishings.  Fabric day/night accordion pull down shades are found throughout the unit.   The L-shape galley is a full service venue with mega amounts of counter top surface.  Huge cabinets lace the areas below the counter top.  Overhead cabinets run in rhythm with the L-shape counter top.  Included is a double sink, an LP cook-top with a conventional oven below and microwave above.  A double-door refrigerator/freezer sits immediately forward of the cook-top/oven, with a floor to ceiling pantry on the other side.

The rear bathroom includes a marine style toilet, fiberglass tub/shower with shower curtain, skylight, porcelain toilet, lavvy/countertop/cabinet complex with a medicine cabinet and mirror and a floor to ceiling linen closet.   Fully appointed theTango fits nicely into any family budget.  Happy Traveling!
