Argentina's Resorts in

Bariloche and other areas.

John C. Jones
Travel/Food Writer

One of my very special unique towns in the world is Bariloche.  A look at the map gives you the general idea of where it is located.  Most flights are into Buenos Aires international airport  - Ezeiza International Airport  and switch over to the national airlines.

“BARILOCHE: located in the south coast of the lake Nahuel Huapi near the nascent of the river Limay 430 kilometers to the southwest of the Neuquén by the national route #237. With 110,000 inhabitants is the biggest city in the Río Negro province and the most important tourist center in the Patagonia.

In 1895 a group of German colonists installed a small trade in the place with the purpose of exporting products to Puerto Montt in Chile, but the foundation of San Carlos de Bariloche dates of 1902. The architect Alejandro Bustillo captured its inspiration in works that today are symbols of the city: the Civic Center, the beautiful Hotel Llao Llao (to left) and the

Two hundred and thirty miles (400km) south of Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata is by far Mar-del-Plata-Casino-small.jpgArgentina's most popular beach resort. Around three million local tourists holiday here every summer, drawn to its busy beaches and lively entertainment.(to right ).

In 1924 comes to San Carlos de Bariloche first tourist.   A contingent that moved from Buenos Aires to Neuquén in train and then by car. Since then, thousands of visitors arrive to this beautiful city in different kinds of transport and from any place of the world.  This city has more than 20,000 lodging beds, international airport, trip crafts that go through the lake, the most important ski center of South-America, lot of campings, a wide range of trips, all the gastronomic alternatives that you can imagine and the richest thing: it produces 3,000 tons of exquisite chocolate per year."

A Rainbow trout I caught in the Bariloche region during the month of Novemer (spring in this area of the world).  In winter the center of the activities of Bariloche area is in the base of the Hill Catedral, where is practiced skiing in all its modalities along almost 70 kilometers of hints. It possesses hotels, restaurants, sweet shops, solariums, 32 elevation means for 20,000 persons/hour and the most spectacular thing: a view from the summit..

The city is extended on the coast of the Lake Nahuel Huapi along several kilometers. The avenue Bustillo or Coastal travels this extension arriving to the peninsula where it is located the imposing hotel Llao Llao and Port Pañuelos, from where they leave trips to the island Victoria and other charming places of the Lake Nahuel Huapi. San Carlos de Bariloche.”

The resort of Bariloche is one of the oldest and most famous ski areas.  The ski areas consist of three side-by-side mountains located about 30 minutes out of the town of Bariloche (there are free shuttles that run regularly).  The slopes tower above the beautiful and massive Lake Nahuel Haupi.  There are more than fifty runs, forty-two miles of trails and thirty plus lifts to handle the skiers.  The summit elevation is some 6,800 feet, with a vertical drop of 3,400 feet.  The slopes are rated:  30% Beginner, 45% Intermediate, 25% Advanced/Expert.

Since the snowfalls are inconsistent better get snow reports before planning a trip.
