Fort George Radisson

Belize City, Belize

The plane had just landed in Belize for my twenty seventh trip there. Having made my way through the familiar surroundings at the International Airport, I soon would secure my rental car from my usual source, Budget Rent A Car, http://www.budget-belize.com/ , and be on my way to a comfortable room in a “Grand ol' Hotel,” the Fort George Radisson of Belize, Central America.

At the Fort George, one will find Belize City's premier hotel offers 102 deluxe air-conditioned rooms overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina offers the most modern facilities in a rich classic colonial ambiance. There are 102 deluxe air-conditioned rooms overlooking the Caribbean Sea and the hotel offers modern facilities in a rich classic colonial atmosphere and feature remote control cable TV, air-conditioning, clock/radios, hairdryers, irons/ironing boards, coffeemakers, private bath, fully stocked mini-bar, direct dial telephone and high speed internet. Some rooms offer balconies, others ocean view, and some feature in-room safes. Other facilities at the Radisson include a full service marina with dive shop, two swimming pools, business center, fitness center, and gift shop. Business center services: include facsimile and photocopying services secretarial services, and access to high speed Internet. The Fitness Center includes: rowing machine, treadmill, stationary bike, Stairmaster and weights. A list of exciting activities offered from the hotel can be found online at: http://www.radissonbelize.com/activities.html

Unlike another of the “up-scale” hotels in which I have stayed in Belize, I find that the ice machines usually work, and that cokes and drinks can be purchased in the mini-bar rather than having to walk down to the lobby to try to find one. For dining there is the St. George's Dining Room, Baymen's Tavern, Stonegrill Restaurant, and, of course – excellent room service. “Breakfast in your room” is an excellent buy, and a delightful experience sitting by the window watching the ships and boats out on the sea. The Radisson has five conference rooms and one boardroom and the Radisson has been the venue for several large conferences, both international and local. I have personally been at the hotel when important national and international meetings were taking place. Outstanding food is served from the kitchen to the banquet rooms. The marina across the street is where cruise ships dock to bring guest into the hotel.

The only weakness I found was in their “business office” where the internet was extremely slow, but just across the street is a business office offering full computer use with fast internet at only about $5 an hour. If you like “class” and great service this is the place in Belize you to find it. I just finished my twenty sixth trip into Belize and always find my visits just as refreshing as in the past.

The recently developed “tourist street,” which is lined with vendors for about an eighth of a mile is only one block away from the hotel entrance, which is especially convenient. There are horse drawn carriages to ride, as well as an International Diamond store on the same street.

This area is the central tourist area of the city and the security is very good with tourist police every few stalls.

The picture is of me being in a meeting the “The Father (Prime Minister) of the Nation of Belize, George Price.” This is the man who lead Belize in independence from the British in 1981.
