My Beloved Resort Area Snowmass, Colorado

(Skiing)

John C. Jones
Travel/Food Writer

Carved our of the Elk Mountain Range, stretching into thin air and reaching into the heaven’s beauties at 12,510 feet is Snowmass.   Snowmass  awaits skiers with the longest vertical drop and highest lift service in the United States.

Snowmass is a place for the “rich and famous,” as well as families!  The families love the area and it is rated as one of the top family resorts in North America.  http://aspensnowmass.com/intown/familyfun.cfm

+Activities abound for the children of all ages.  There are plenty of activities for the non-skier such as snow shoeing, guided snowmobile trips, horse-drawn carriage rides, as well as a mid-mountain amusement park complete with snow castles and plenty more to do.

There are ski trails for all level of skiers.  With more than 300 inches of snow per winter, quality snow is never in shortage.  The expert skiers find the High Alpine area in the double backs of Hanging Valley, as well as wide-open bowls and challenging tree skiing.  For the daring there is the Himalayan image of Mount Baldy flaunting a 2,000 vertical-foot powder bowl.  The ski level breakdown is:  7% Beginner, 55% Intermediate, 38% Advance to expert.  Additional double-black diamond terrain has been added in the Hanging Valley Wall. Terrain parks are available for all levels: Funnel - beginner, Coney Glade - intermediate, Velvet Falls - advanced. The superpipe is cut with a state of the art Zaugg pipe cutter. A new more comfortable Campground lift, is also shorter, with a ride time of only 8 1/2 minutes

The area of Snowmass is approximately 3,000 acres with 83 trails and a long run of 5 miles.

There are over 20 lifts to make sure you don’t spend your valuable time waiting in lines.  The lifts can accommodate an amazing 27,928 riders/hour.  Snowmass Village has an excellent range of accommodations, and Aspen is just around the corner.  The Aspen Airport is only five minutes away and Denver is only 200 miles away.   The Snowmass ski area is bigger than the combined acreage of nearby Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, and Aspen Highlands, and handles more skiers than the three combined.   This is as big as ski resorts get in the United States.  Happy Traveling.
