18 Miles to the Border

Fine Mexican Food Dining

Bozeman, Montana

John C. Jones
Travel/Food Writer
Travel Photojournalist

While dining at the prestigious Yellowstone Club I asked the couple dining with us, "Where can I find some good Mexican Food in this area?"  The quick response was, "Bozeman, at 18 Miles to the Border!"

Being a Texan, we are very suspicious of anything north of the panhandle of Texas being acquainted with "good Mexican food."  I took a chance, and am I ever glad I did!   This wins the Editor's Choice for fine Mexican dining!

Since Mexican food is one of my main dishes, several times during every week when I am at "home base," or where I can find good Mexican food when traveling.  All of my readers know by now, I am a serious "gringo, Mexican food critic!"  Trust me, I know great Mexican food!

Located at 131 W Main Street, this outstanding establishment awaits you visit with inside as well as a beautifully appointed outside dining area. Serving:  Tamales ; Fish Tacos; Veggie Dishes ; Cilantro-Lime Rice ; Patio Dinning       EAT IN OR TAKE OUT Hours: Mon. - Sat. 11:30am-9:00 pm ; Sun. 8-1 131 West Main St. * Bozeman, Montana.

The day I visited the owner/manager,  Roy lee,   was outside greeting guest as they arrive.  When I see that type of supervision I generally know I am in for some fine dining!  I was!

"Roy honed his cooking skills and learned to prepare authentic Mexican food in the kitchens of Mexico. In Patagonia, where Roy grew up 18 Miles from the Border, his friends and family taught him to cook the old style Mexican dishes. He takes pride in the fact that everything in the restaurant is prepared fresh daily, from his Tamales to his marinated Carne Asada and Roy’s signature Machaca, and of course Rosalie’s homemade Salsa to top everything off."  The Montana Standard

Good prices, delicious food, beautifully prepared on the plate!  Friendly service, in a lovely atmosphere of trees and potted plants, all well landscaped to complete the dining experience! One will find a large choice of traditional dishes, as well as new dishes perhaps never offered in the usual Mexican dining experience.

On their menu one is offered a large choice of items, including ground beef and shredded meat items.  there are items like the veggie enchilada, veggie or fish tacos, or veggie burrito for the non-red meat eaters,

Happy traveling, and happy dining in Montana.
