The Very Special

Mountain Chalet

in

Aspen, Colorado

John C. Jones
Travel/Food Writer

One look at the winter or summer view of this landmark resort at http://www.mountainchaletaspen.com/ will make you want to head out to one of my most favorite cities in all of America – Aspen, Colorado.   Built in 1954 against the backdrop of  Aspen Mountain, the scene is one straight                                                                       from some exotic ski movie.

The owners, Ralph and Marian Melville have been catering to the Aspen travelers for more than a half a century.  The travelers keep coming back, and many of them asking for the same rooms they enjoyed “last time there.”  In the winter there is complimentary breakfast and complimentary continental breakfast in the summer.    Sitting on the balcony drinking coffee with the morning mountain air assisting with your “coming alive,” will become an addictive experience if

one is not careful.  (Ralph's lobby dog Ransom) Ralph

graduated from Dartmouth University with a degree in physics,

which proved to be a great help in building and adding onto

                                            the Mountain Chalet .

To the left is part of the dining and lobby area tastefully done in "mountain decor."  One won’t have trouble finding a room that fits their needs with two and three bedroom suites – two baths, some kitchenettes, queen size beds, and beautiful views.  With fifty-five rooms there is something to suit each need.  There is a large (equipped for 200) conference center and bar with balcony dining for “business with a view.”

For the guest there is a full size swimming pool, laundry facilities, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, 32 space underground parking garage, and fitness facility.  Less than a five minutes walk and you are into the heart of Aspen shopping and people watching.  I can highly recommend these accommodations for the traveler wanting restful accommodations, convenient  location, and reasonable prices.

If you are fortunate enough to get to visit with owners Ralph and Marian Melville your stay will be complete!  Oh, that the world had more of this type of people.
