Yellowstone National Park

2004

John C. Jones, Editor

One of my favorite places to visit and recommend to readers is, Yellowstone National Park. With gasoline prices as high as they are now, and with all the specials for flights to Jackson Hole, Wyoming or to Billings, Montana – I recommend flying and getting a rental car. Rooms can be found in West Yellowstone (see related article), and you can be center to most all of the park. Another option is to get a room at the Old Faithful Lodge, but this has to be done months in advance.  Room rates and reservations may be found at: https://resserv.secure.powweb.com/yel/form/

Another option I have tried and found to be a good choice is flying into Billings and renting a mini-motor home. At this Internet site you will find a wide choice of places to rent from and a wide variety of types of motor homes:

Mid June is an excellent time to visit the park. It is not so crowded, and the temperature is still in the mid 60's to 70's. There are no bad times to be in Yellowstone, except winter perhaps, and that is only if you don't like below zero weather. There are plenty of winter activities to keep you busy.

If you are a senior, there is the Golden Age Pass that gets you into all the National Parks free the rest of your life , and large discounts on camping, etc. There is a one-time fee of $10.00. Is that a deal or not? http://www.nps.gov/fees_passes.htm

Dining at the various park villages has proven to be excellent this visit, as well as all the past visits. The prices are very reasonable.

I highly recommend you pay a visit to West Yellowstone and go to the IMAX Theather, visit the town, eat at Buckaroo Bill's, have cappuccino which has to be “the world's best” at the Book Peddler on main street (Canyon Street). *See related articles in this issue.

Below are some of the scenes from this year's trip and are the type of things you might see in the area of the park.  Happy Traveling
