The Villa Maria
Vavello Italy

John C. Jones

I highly recommend travelers to try this B & B for a “remembering Italy” experience.  This charming hotel is located in the region of Campania Italy. You will never forget the nights at  the quaint Villa Maria.  It is comfortably  located  two minutes walking from the main square of Ravello.  A romantic old villa has a lovely vista to the north for a magnificent coastal visual.  Tables and chairs around the garden area provide a delightful dining area and outstanding view.  of the enchanting Ravello. It is in a central position, situated among Villa Rufolo, the main square and Villa Cimbrone. Restaurant with sea view terraces, wide parking and solarium. For the music lovers, the hotel Villa Maria is endowed with wide rooms to organize splendid parties and small concerts for the most impassioned.  Rates, etc. found at:  http://www.hotels-search-engine.org/hotel/11254574 or  http://www.villamaria.it/eng/camere.asp

THE VILLA WAS BUILT BY A ROMAN NOBLEMAN, RECENTLY RESTRUCTURED, THIS HAS CONSERVED THE CHARACTER OF AN ANCIENT PATRICIAN RESIDENCE.  The rooms are air conditioned and well furnished with antiques.  There is an English speaking staff that one will find most gracious.  Vincenzo Palumbo, the owner, also owns  the more modern hotel Giordano.  The hotel is located just far enough from the center of Ravello to assure perfect tranquility and the most spectacular of vistas imaginable.

The rooms at the hotel are very characteristic of the local flavor and furniture and include hair dryer, AC, TV, mini-bar and telephone. Many have balconies with wonderful views of the surrounding hillsides and sea.   The superior rooms are larger and have hydro massage bath or shower and are more exposed to the sea view.

ABOUT RAVELLO

Situated in a 350 feet high cliff overlooking the blue sea of the Amalfi Coast, it has conserved its historical monuments through the years.
Ravello is one of the loveliest resorts along the Amalfi Coast. It has attracted artists, writers, and celebrities for years (Richard Wagner, Greta Garbo, André Gide, and even D. H. Lawrence, who wrote Lady Chatterley's Lover here). Boccaccio dedicated part of the Decameron to Ravello, and John Huston used it as a location for his film Beat the Devil, with Bogie.
One of the most important monuments is the Cathedral, built in 1086, where one can admire the Ambo and the Pulpit decorated with Byzantine mosaics, relics such as the bust of Sigilgaita Rufolo, the splendid bronze doors by Barisano da Trani and the museum situated in the crypt.
