Winter Wonderland

Quebec, Canada

Theresa Russel

Oh, winter. It seems that we either love or hate this season. Those  who love it, enjoy sitting in front of a crackling fire after a day  of activities in the snow or the brisk chilled air. Nestled in the  eastern townships of Québec, is the Spa Eastman resort, one of the  first destination spas in Canada. The ambience is one of  relaxation, with all sorts of offerings including both traditional and alternative massage, aromatherapy, naturopathy  and educational offerings as well.

The main lodge contains the more traditionall style of accommodations,   while separate cabins in the back offer more secluded lodging. But it  is the vast array of programs that will contribute to your health and  well-being that Spa Eastman exists.

The staff is cordial and ready to explain any treatments that are  offered. Special offerings in the massage department include a  massage that is given under the spray of water. It simulates a  gentle rain and the soothing effects that it has. Choosing a  treatment is no easy task as there are many offerings available.  Definitely try a few of them. After all, that is the reason that you
came here! Indulge yourself.

Another special service at Spa Eastman is a naturopath, who will run  extensive tests on your body and explain to you which basic elements  may be lacking in your body. A personal consultation with her,  involves a health history and then a testing of responses to a   special instrument. The results of this testing show which parts of  your system are unbalanced. Should you choose to follow a Bach  Flower regime, the naturopath will mix a tincture for you that you should take as directed.

Improvements from this should be noticed in a short time. Having a  small piece of your hair cut for a chemical analysis is also another  method that the naturopath will use to determine your supplemental
needs.

Did you have an interest in improving your health or perhaps losing  some weight? There are several options available, and of course, there are  mini-seminars that tell you the benefits of all of the treatments and  diet regimes offered at Spa Eastman. Two rather different choices  are a grape diet and the blood type diet. While Spa Eastman doesn´t  necessarily recommend one type of eating regime over another, they  do offer advice to those who wish to follow a special regime. For  example, the grape diet is not for everybody, and they will evaluate  anybody interested in this to assure that you are a good candidate.  Your success is very important to them, and they will work with you to see that your stay is successful in every way.

Enjoying winter in calm and charming surroundings of Spa Eastman offers a truly unique setting complete with the beauty and simplicity of nature. One invigorating activity is the traditional snow bath. First, you take part in a hammam, a traditional steam bath, After that you run outside in your swimsuit and dive into a snow bank, maybe taking a few moments to make some snow angels before running back and jumping in the swimming pool. What a great experience this is for revitalizing the body and mind.

Winter is the perfect time to get back into shape and The Relaxation and Fitness program at Spa Eastman offers daily guided-walks along 15km of excellent trails. Fitness professionals help you with different techniques to get the most out of your walking regime. Combined with informative workshops on nutrition, you are well on your way to a healthier lifestyle. Classes are available in stretching, yoga and fitball. And for those who really enjoy the outdoors, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing are available near by.

Less than an hour from Montreal (80 km) and close to Quebec City (120 km), the Eastern Townships enjoy a privileged location, straddling the U.S. border at Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine for more than 300 kilometres. So put on those warm clothes and head to the warmth and comfort of the Eastman Spa.
