Golf at Lake Lanier Islands, Georgia

John C. Jones

One of the main reasons people come to Lake Lanier Island is to golf (as well as dozens of other reasons - see this month's article on Resorts).  Golfing at Lake Lanier could be the South's answer to the West Coast Pebble Beach! And way more in the price range of the average golfer.  This has to be one of America's best prices on 18 holes of beautiful golfing experience.

Forty-five minutes from northeast Atlanta, Lake Lanier Islands Resort is situated on the shores of Lake Sidney Lanier and is Georgia’s most visited lakeside resort destination. The 1,100-acre resort provides a variety of amenities and services. Emerald Pointe Hotel & Conference Center, 30 lakeside cottages, two award winning golf courses Emerald Pointe and PineIsle, scenic horseback riding, spa services, famed wine tasting dinners, campsites and boat rentals from Harbor Landing are currently available for reservations.

The Lake Lanier Islands Golf Academy offers a variety of lessons, clinics, and programs designed to help golfers improve their game.Use of the latest digital video and computer technology to enhance each guest’s experience is just one of their approaches, in addition to old fashioned "hands on" golf pro instruction.

The Lake Lanier Islands Golf Academy offers individual lessons, weekly clinics, and Summer camps for juniors ages 5-18.

Pineisle Course Now Open

The PineIsle Course (video of the course) closed on November 4, 2005 for renovations and maintenance during the winter months, including bunker renovations, landscaping and a new fleet of 2006 Club Car Precedent golf carts. Fairways Grill will re-open as a casual sports bar and grille. The golf course, restaurant and pro shop will now operate under the same management as Emerald Pointe Golf Club (Emerald Pointe Golf Club is curently closed for renovations, but when it does reopen it will be more beautiful and challenging than ever) at Lake Lanier Islands. “We are very excited to have PineIsle and Emerald Pointe under the same management for the first time in the history of Lake Lanier Islands,” said Rick Hileman, Director of Golf for Lake Lanier Islands.

With the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop,

PineIsle is a visually stunning golf experience. For refueling after the game, Fairways Grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

The award- winning, Pinesle par-72, 18-hole championship course, with its manicured greens and refurbished bunkers, is one of Atlanta’s most scenic resort golf courses and one you will remember for a long time after the game is over.  This is one fantastic resort where the entire family will have activities while the golfing members of he family "build memories" of great shots and beautiful senic holes.

As one would imagine at at resort of this quality, the pro shops are well equipped and have

an excellent array of choices of balls, clubs, and clothing to pick from for both men and women.

After a day of golfing could we recommend a relaxing spa treatment at the new state-of-the-art spa?
