Situated
near the Alliance Airport in Fort Worth, Texas, and less than
30 minutes from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, is
one of the Metro's great golf courses.
I
found gently rolling hills, natural creeks, oak-lined fairways,
dramatic changes in elevations, variety at every tee box,
challenging water, great greens, and a very intriguing course
awaiting me. The Doral Tesoro Golf Club located
at 15801 Championship Parkway, Fort Worth, Texas, is easy
to find - just across the road from the Texas Motor Speedway!
I-35 and Hwy. 114 is the general area. Just follow the Championship
Parkway exit off of Highway 114. There you will see the majestic
Doral Tesoro Hotel rising from the landscape! Phone 817 961-0800
/ Fax 817 961-0900. The Internet site is www.doraltesoro.com
.

The
pro shop and entrance to the golf course is just a short distance
from the hotel. There you will find the usual golf course
food and drinks, basic golf needs, and a great course awaiting
you! I found the staff to be especially friendly, and the
well supplied snack cart coming around regularly during the
course of play.
The
course, built in 2000, once a Greg Norman designed course,
known as, The Creeks at Beechwood, was overly difficult and
turned many metro players to the more golfer friendly
fairways. The course was built where a former cattle
ranch, nestled into some creek beds with high walls and distinctive
rock outcroppings, once existed. The fairways were tighter
than "an old maid's lips who had wandered into a bachelor
party." There were creeks, trees, and more
trees - for the most part, in the wrong places.

After
spending over two million dollars with designer Jay Morrish
and Associates to do the renovation, as of November 2003,
we have a course where most golfers can play a very manageable
game. The renovation work included new golf course drainage,
greens, tees, and bunker enhancements as well as irrigation
improvements. Somewhere around nine of the eighteen fairways
have water or dry creek beds involved. Lay your shots up carefully
and you'll have your best scores.
With
the course being more open, there are plenty of areas for
the long hitters to try their John Daily shots! The five tee
box choices make certain the most skilled player can find
a challenge.
Take
a look at the marvel of a "modern technology" web
site to tour the course. http://www.thecreeksatbeechwood.com/default.asp?p=MembersDefault
The
first hole may leave you feeling that the course is not "úthat
player friendly." You find yourself hitting
over water, and water to the right of the green. The tee box
alignment will have you heading right out there if you don't
line up your shot carefully! Play it considerably more
to the left than you feel that you need to - unless you are
a hooker - and you will be off to a good start.
The
commanding hotel is even more impressive with the long drive
leading into the prestigious property. There are
286 guest rooms and suites that are luxuriously
appointed with contemporary
styling with a light and airy feel about them due to the pastel
colors. Oversized work areas, cordless phones, computer
data port, and complimentary Starbucks Coffee are just a few
of the special touches in every room.

The
hotel lobby is the beginning of your feeling of the open,
fresh, contemporary feel of this tranquil, serene hotel.
The rooms are just as inviting as is the lobby. The
decor has just the right touch of light and color for an enexpected
feel of a "picture perfect" setting. Happy
Traveling.
