Golfing The Cliffs Course
Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas

John C. Jones
Travel/Food Writer

A short 90 minutes west from Fort Worth, Texas is the challenging and beautiful Cliffs Golf Course and Resort  of the Palo Pinto mountain range.  This is truly a championship course that the PGA players make an “for sure stop-over” when in the area!  Golfer, B. J. Robison of California pausing for a picture.  He plays "Pebble Beach" and says The Cliffs is an equal choice for him.

The commanding par 71, 6,808 course with a 73.8 rating has been ranked among the top courses in Texas and recently by the Travel & Leisure Golf Magazine.  There is never a moment without marvel at the 170-foot cliffs, lush fairways, bent-grass greens, canyons to hit over, deer and wildlife (I counted fourteen deer on one fairway – two bucks), and breathtaking views. This course gives new meaning to “spectacular.”

Yes, you do hit down to the green in the picture

to theRight !  The course is a direct reflection of the designers: touring pro Bruce Devlin and renowned architect Robert Von Hagge.  The truly unique West Texas terrain uses the natural landscape to create an unforgettable course complete with  ravines, rock outcroppings, cedar groves,   fantastic views     of the lake, and a mixture of native grasses and cedar trees,  border the fairways.

The resort offers a 75 room hotel overlooking the enchanting and captivating lake and 20 spacious one-bedroom condominiums overlooking the golf course.

The course is rated as one of the most difficult in Texas, so bring plenty of golf balls you don’t mind loosing.   For golf rates:  http://www.thecliffsresort.com/rates.cfm#golfrates
