St. Simons Island, Georgia

Village Inn & Pub

John C. Jones
Travel/Food Writer

There are a lot of Bed and Breakfast travelers among the readership of these travel articles, and it is my joy to bring you places that I feel are “special enough for you to consider making a ‘stop-over'.”

 St. Simons Island , Georgia.

Combine romance and history for a Special-Sweetheart Georgia Getaway to the Village Inn & Pub (circa 1930) on one of Georgia 's most romantic islands. Celebrate an anniversary, renew your vows or fall in love again as you travel to St. Simons Island from September to February as the Inn opens its doors and heart for a memorable escape to paradise. St. Simons Island is one of the most historic and picturesque Sea Islands along the Atlantic coast.

Nestled under giant live oaks in the center of the historic village and Lighthouse District, the Village Inn & Pub combines the history of being a true 1930 beach cottage with the meticulous ambience of a 28-room inn. Each room has a unique layout because the property's trees were untouched during its construction in 2002, preserving the towering live oaks and native vegetation that won the Village Inn a national design award from Coastal Living Magazine in 2003.

The two-story pavilion that wraps around the original cottage defines a garden courtyard with a swimming pool, sun deck and shaded terraced seating. The cottage's original stone fireplace and an antique English bar crafted of mahogany now grace a friendly neighborhood pub. Within one block from The Inn, the Village of St. Simons Island offers fine and casual dining, boutique shops, live theater, boating, fishing, bicycling, island trolley and attractions.

Each of the rooms pays tribute to a famous person who helped make St. Simons what it is today. From novelist Eugenia Price and Shakespearean actress and writer Fanny Kemble to statesman Thomas Spalding and William Bartram , America 's first botanist of the late 18 th Century, all accommodations graciously combine the romance and history that senior travelers take pleasure in.

Every week from September 2004 - February 2005, from Sunday through Thursday, the Village Inn & Pub offers a Senior Special-Sweetheart rate that includes a two or three night stay. Reserve a 2-night stay and the second night is half price. Reserve a 3-night stay , the first two nights are regular mid-week price and the third night is free!

At the Village Pub, located inside the Cottage, one can enjoy a reproduction English Pub atmosphere. They open their doors daily at 5:00 p.m. and cater to the local patrons and travelers as well.  You can sit at the solid mahogany bar that was brought over from England , or relax in a comfortable leather chair in front of the original 1930 stone fireplace.
