The Class A Terra LX
by Fleetwood

Lazelle Jones

This new gasoline powered Class A coach by Fleetwood RV comes with a base MSRP of around $100,000.  Excellent both for growing families and the full timer, the Terra LX offers a lot of bang–for-the-buck.  Available in three floor plans that range in length from 32’ up to 35’, all floor plans are 102” wide and come equipped with two slide-out rooms.

On those long travel days, its excellent road manners and driving characteristics make it friendly and comfortable to drive.  Visibility is good, made so by the flat, deep dash that yields an uncluttered view out the front.  The instrumentation is uncomplicated, very much automotive in style and familiar is presentation.  The Smart Wheel includes the cruise control.

With 60 gallons of fresh water (full) and 75 gallons of fuel (full), fuel economy is respectable. The Terra LX GVWR ranges from 20,500 - 22,000 and has an abundance of cargo carrying capacity to support extended RV road trips. The basement storage compartment features 90 cubic feet of storage, with the rear bay designed for optional coach wide pass-thru storage.  The bay doors on each side measure 48” X 27” and with a slide-out tray this basement area can be utilized to the max.  The basement compartments along with the holding tanks are insulated and heated by the 34M BTU forced air furnace.

The GVWR is augmented by Fleetwood’s raised rail Power Platform Plus system.  It is used with both the Ford chassis and the  Workhorse chassis .  Fleetwood’s Power Platform Plus adds twin longitudinal platform rails and outriggers that anchor the basement compartment structures.  The holding tanks are positioned between the platform rails to keep the weight in the center of the coach for improved balance.

The Terra LX features electronic tank level indicators, versus conventional probes that penetrate the surface of the vessel and can snag debris.  The electronic level sensors are mounted on the outside of the tank and send an electronic signal through the wall of the tank to determine fluid level.

The walls and roof feature welded tubular aluminum members, with foam core insulation cut to fit and sandwiched in the gird created by the structural members.  Wall board dresses the interior side and gel-coat fiberglass (Vetrolite that is 3/16” thick and does not require a backer board) is used on the exterior.  By eliminating the use of backer-board, moisture working its way in between two different materials is never an issue.  The walls and roof structures are vacuum laminated.

The Terra LX comes with standard full body paint that includes a base coat, painted graphics and a top dressing of clear coat.  Three exterior full body paint schemes are offered.  On the inside hardwood raised panel interior cabinet doors are crafted from alder with matching stain.

All three slide-out floor plans feature a living or salon area slide that houses a dinette and sofa/sleeper, with the exception of the smallest unit that houses a sofa/sleeper, dinette and refrigerator/pantry. One floor plan offers a full size bathtub (46” long, 24” wide by 12” deep).   Even when the queen bed is retracted for travel, the rear stateroom is serviceable.  The main wardrobe is juxtaposed forward of the head of the bed where it too is always accessible.  It articulates in and out with the queen bed.  Via a toggle switch, a single control panel operates the forward and the rear slide-outs.  Fleetwood features a 4-point electric PowerGear Leveling System

The Terra LX can accommodate four adults for the night.  For those who full time (when livability is of paramount importance) this coach nicely accommodates those folks as well. The galley is a full service food preparation area that includes a double sink, 3-burner cook-top (drop in oven is optional), a microwave oven (convection microwave is optional), an eight cubic foot refrigerator freezer and a floor to ceiling pantry.  Forward of the main entry is a fabric dressed swivel chair.  When the two captain seats in the cockpit are turned 180 degrees, there is seating for several people.  The 24” television is positioned centerline, above the dash.

The Terra LX can be equipped with a second (optional) 11M BTU rear roof air conditioner.  Standard equipment is a single 13.5M BTU unit, up front.  A 4.0 kW genset is standard, with a 5.5 kW genset offered to support the optional second roof A/C.  An electronic energy management system senses changing levels of A/C demand.  When connected to shore power and when electrical demand is high, it goes through what is called “load shedding.”   It is because of load shedding that both roof air conditioners can operate on 30 amp shore power under such conditions.  What occurs is that the compressor on the rear roof A/C unit it taken out of service until electrical demand drops.  Then, the compressor automatically comes back on line.  Even though the compressor on the rear unit may be temporarily shut down, the blower on the rear A/C doesn’t stop, so for those enjoying climate controlled temperatures inside when temperatures outside are hostile, these evolutions are totally transparent.

For many, this new Class A gasoline powered Terra LX will make a lot of sense, both functionally and for the family budget.  For a dealer near you, visit the Fleetwood web site listed above.  Happy Traveling!
