The Platinum Plus:

A Featherlite Luxury Coach

Lazelle Jones

With their factory located in Sanford, Florida and dealer and service centers strategically located across the United States, Featherlite Luxury Coaches is ranked as one of the premier luxury custom coach converters in the world.

Offering new coach conversions with base suggested retail prices that begin at $1.2-million, they recently presented the Platinum Coach Edition with a suggested retail price of $2.5million.

A Series 60 Detroit Diesel with a 6-speed World Transmission and a retarded transmission braking device power the Platinum Plus.  This Prevost H3-45    triple slide bus shell chassis has a 54,500 lb GVWR and is capable of towing another 20,000 pounds.  It’s this kind of prowess, coupled with the palatial accommodation that makes Featherlite Luxury Coaches a favorite among NASCAR Cup drivers and team owners and why it’s the official luxury coach of NASCAR.

The Platinum Plus features the SuperSlide (two rear stateroom slide-outs that each measure 10.5 feet long, the largest slide-outs in the industry).  Coupled with the front salon slide-out, the amount of livability this coach yields is humongous.  Appointments include four 14,000 BTU roof air conditioners with heat pumps, an AquaHot heating system that circulates heated fluid to heating zones including the basement compartments. It provides hot water, pre-heats the Detroit Diesel and can use (over the road engine heat to heat the coach and water.  Electric heaters augment the AquaHot System.  A 20kW diesel powered auxiliary generator includes an auto-start function that starts the generator when voltage on the eight deep cycle marine style house batteries falls below a specified set point.  Twin 4,000 watt inverters power everything onboard including the electric galley cook top and the rear stateroom air conditioner.  This is especially nice when camping in a National Park where noise restrictions will not permit the generator to be run after a certain hour.  This state-of-the-art electrical system, along with the diesel fueled AquaHot System and the massive holding tanks (fresh 160 gal, grey 81-gal and waste 81-gal) make days on end of stand alone coach living totally doable.  The main fuel tank holds 235 gallons which means you will need to refuel only one time during a road trip across America.

The main entry steps are constructed of copper glass that is fused to non-slip glass. The walls are also made of copper glass, while the risers are formed of hand-made glass tiles imbedded with copper wire. Referred to as “the helm”, the cockpit includes dyed leather for the seats and dash. The veneer on the dash and steering wheel, called Sapele Pommele, is from Africa. The entry hand rail, passenger grab rail and step railing are hand created by artist/sculptor Chip Manz. The cockpit includes the Avic N-2 GPS that provides real-time traffic and weather alerts. The ceiling, walls and AV cabinet are dressed in pearlized Italian leather, while the television is a fix-mounted, 50-inch plasma unit.

The custom-built, copper galley top has been aged and coated to ensure retention of its elegant hue. It includes details like knife slots and a lift-up spice rack. The custom sink is farmhouse style and is custom painted by Marzi Studios. Sapele veneer with custom lite core doors and inlay work dress the cabinets. The galley includes a built-in coffee center, Miele dishwasher, electric cook-top and a Sub Zero Refrigerator/Freezer. All galley utensils, pots and pans, serving pieces, dish towels, glasses, napkins, placemats and lighted salt and pepper mills from Williams-Sonoma are included. Along with seating for four, the Onyx dining table comes with hand-painted china by Michael Weems and Haviland–Limoges and gold flatware from South Africa.

The liquor cabinet (covered in Sapelel veneer) includes signed crystal glasses by Michael Weems. The custom desk is dressed in Crazy Croc leather.  The drawers are lined with suede. Included is an Alien Ware laptop computer and multi-task printer. A gentlemen’s chair is covered to match the desk.   The Platinum Plus features a private lavvy including a glass sink and counter top by artist Mark Ditzler. Faux artist Kathy Bailey created the wall and sink pedestal. The custom crystal lighting was created by Schonbeek and Swarovski.

Throughout the salon, galley and hall, the ceiling is covered in a custom copper sculpture while the ceiling spots are covered with Swarovski crystals. In the stateroom is a beautiful copper leaf ceiling. Italian copper knobs are found on all cabinet doors. The flooring from the entryway back through the bath is a lightweight Bottoccinno, laid in a three-dimensional design with Inca Gold accents. The rear stateroom floor features a special leaf inlay by Augie. A custom foot board on the bed houses a lift that raises and lowers the plasma television for viewing, while the headboard features mirrored posters with Schonbeck crystal and antique bronze leaf finish scones.  The ceiling is finished with copper leaf by artist Kathy Bailey. The custom mattress features a split top with dual controls. King-size sheets with a 1,025-thread count and two spa robes are included.

The private stateroom bath (featuring hardware from France) is finished in copper and crystal. The shower includes a rain head, hand shower and body sprays. The Stalattite Onyx that dresses the walls includes custom-made tile accents. The glass sink and matching counter top are by artist Roberto Scira. Artist Kathy Bailey created the painted vein mirror that adorns the vanity cabinet, nightstands, foot board, bed frame and overhead cabinetry.

The Platinum Plus includes a custom Italian Sofa with double electric recliners that are upholstered in Corragio fabric. This mobile palace is equipped with a built-in treadmill that folds down from of the wall like a Murphy bed. Included in the fitness center is a 13” LCD television that is cleverly hidden behind the mirror until it’s turned on.

The exterior bays are equipped with a grill, refrigerator, ice-maker, wine cooler, a drop-down dining area with two stools and a complete entertainment center that includes a 42” LCD television. All dishes, flatware, glassware, grill utensils, candles, and dish clothes are included. There is a locked, built-in sports cabinet with two custom gun cases and an accessory drawer that can be used to house golf equipment. A fully equipped toolbox is included as is a built-in pressure washer and Boji water system.
