The All New Safari Simba:

A Motorized Toy-Hauler

Lazelle Jones

Occasionally a new and innovative recreational vehicle comes along that is on the cusp of innovation and functionality and the all-new Safari Simba is just such a product.  Built using as its platform the Freightliner  Chassis, the Simba is equipped with a 300 horsepower Cummins ISB-02 turbo charged diesel engine that is located up front (that’s right, this is not a rear diesel pusher).  The 80 gallon fuel tank can be filled from either side of the coach.  The GVWR of this all-new Simba is 26,000 pounds and it is rated to tow to a destination another 5,000 pounds of trailered toys or what ever.

What Safari Motor Coach has done with this diesel powered toy hauler makes it a unit that is packed with utility and functionality.  But they have also packed this toy hauler with luxury and livability. Immediately aft of the two cockpit captain seats are two more passenger captain style chairs that swivel and recline.  All four of these seats can be swiveled to face toward the center where a center post table that remains stowed in a closet until needed can be quickly installed to create a full service dining area .  Above these four captain chairs is an ElectroMagic queen size bed that stays tucked against the interior ceiling until it’s time for bed.  Then with the touch of a button the bed is lowered for use and just a quickly the next morning it can be quickly stowed against the ceiling for travel or to create a spacious salon or living area.

A street-side slide-out galley, replete with all the modern galley features  (cabinets with counter top, double sink, cook-top, microwave oven and an 8-cubic foot refrigerator freezer) sits immediately aft of the salon/living area.  On the curb side and aft of the main side entry is a sleeper sofa that folds out for even more sleeping area.

The full-service bathroom includes a marine style toilet, full shower, lavvy countertop cabinet and a medicine cabinet with mirror.  The fresh, gray and waste holding tank capacities (60, 45 and 54 gallons, respectively) are sufficiently large enough to support several days of stand-alone RV camping.  The ten gallon LPG water heater provides hot water for the shower, galley and outside shower station.

The rear cargo area is separated from the front of the coach by a solid wall and an interior door/passageway.  Two full size double beds are tucked against the cargo area ceiling and are lowered for sleeping.  With the sleeping accommodations in the front and the dining area, all total the Simba sleeps eight individuals.  The bottom double bed in the rear can be lowered by itself and then folded and configured to create a sofa for lounging on or for watching the 20 inch television located on the cargo area wall.  It can also be folded so it becomes a rear facing sofa, so the world outside can be enjoyed when the rear lift gate/wall is open.

The utilities on the thirty-eight foot long Simba include a standard 50 amp shore power cable so that the Simba can be enjoyed in any luxury motor coach resort.  It also comes equipped with a 5.5 kW LPG fueled auxiliary generator so that all 110-volt electrical needs can be met in primitive stand-alone camping.  The standard equipment air conditioner is a 15,000 BTU roof unit, with an optional heat pump available.  The air conditioning is centrally ducted through adjustable ceiling registers that lace the coach front to rear.  The 31M BTU forced air furnace is also centrally ducted.

Without options the MSRP for this all-new Simba is $142,301.  Using the toy hauler and diesel pusher technologies that have been developed and perfected by Safari’s sister divisions at Monaco Coach Corporation, the Simba represents a major leap forward in what is a burgeoning segment of the RV market.  For more information on the Simba and for the name of a dealer near you, visit the Safari website at www.safarimotorcoaches.com and check-it-out.  Happy Traveling!
