Pine Mountain, Georgia

John C. Jones
Travel/Food Writer

Beautiful Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia  offers a “full service” resort and spa for the entire family.   Many of the activities available to the family are highlighted in the article in the Resorts and Spas section of this month’s magazine.

There are sixty-three holes of championship golf and a nationally recognized tennis and racquetball center that make Callaway Gardens a sports enthusiast's dream.  For the most dedicated golfers there is the Mountain View Golf Course at Callaway.   PGA Tour's Buick Challenge is held annually and the tournament attracts the biggest names on the PGA tour. The 18-hole courses and 9-hole executive course present challenging play with beautiful views.  Located at one of the finest resorts in Georgia, the Mountain View Course is one of three eighteen-hole courses in Callaway Gardens.  It was also rated Best Public Course in Georgia by Golf Digest in 1996. Holes on the course are protected by many bunkers and most every green is elevated above the fairways. Mountain View is one of the toughest tests available for the public golfer, and par 5 offers plenty of proof. The 18-hole "Mountain View" course at the Callaway Gardens Golf Resort facility in Pine Mountain, Georgia features 7,057 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72.  The course rating is 73.9 and it has a slope rating of 136 on Bermuda grass.  Designed by Dick Wilson/Joseph L. Lee, the Mountain View golf course opened in 1963.

“Golf at Callaway Gardens is nothing less than awe-inspiring.  The superbly designed and meticulously maintained Georgia golf courses at feature woodland borders and mountain lakes accented by the dramatic beauty of the Gardens. No other golf course in Georgia can deliver this combination of a magnificent natural setting and a rich golf tradition. Founder Cason Callaway believed that “playing golf should be a pleasant experience in beautiful surroundings” - his vision has been surpassed by the Callaway golf experience.

An array of challenges for golfers of every skill level and age are found on the Callaway Gardens golf courses. Some of the game’s best players have been tested by the Mountain View Championship Golf Course. The Lake View course has 18 holes where gorgeous scenery is viewed at every turn. The Sky View is a nine-hole executive course that is perfect for families and beginners.

Specially-priced packages are available for your Georgia golf getaway.

Check out the great article on these courses at travelgolf.com.

The certified professional golf staff of Callaway Gardens can skillfully coordinate successful tournaments and golf outings for groups. With its myriad of recreational, dining and lodging options, and variety of golf courses Callaway Gardens is a unique and spectacular Georgia golf resort that provides the ideal setting for your group event.”

This is truly one place where the spa, the lodge, the events for all the rest of the non-golfing family will keep the entire group “happy travelers.”  All in first class comfort!  There is an airstrip for those with private planes.  See my related Callaway Gardens articles this month for activities in the Resort and around the area.
