Myrtle Beach Golf at
the Legends Course

John C. Jones
Travel/Food Writer

With three “never-to-be-forgotten” courses, you will remember the vacation when you “played the Legends,”  for many years to come.

Rated one of the "Top 10 New Resort Courses in the World" by Golf Digest Magazine in 1990, Heathland's design allows players of all ability levels to "Step Back in Time". The par 71 Heathland Course, designed by Tom Doak, has been craftily molded in the image of the British links courses, with holes reminiscent of familiar links like St. Andrews and lesser known gems like Lahinch and Cruden Bay.

Most of the holes have no trees on them, providing a visual presentation like no other course around. The challenge and difficulty of this course comes primarily from the unobstructed breeze, strategically placed bunkers and the lush deep rough, rather than from boundaries of trees. Some of the greens at Heathland are huge, presenting an interesting dilemma to players who hit their shots on the wrong portion of the green. Some of the greenside bunkers are deep and require well-played shots to escape

Moorland at The Legends earned it's designation as one of the"Top 10 New Courses of 1990" by Golf Digest and in 1991, Golf Digest crowned Moorland one of the "Top 5 New Public Courses in America." P.B. Dye's flair for deep bunkers, multi-level fairways and greens, and signature bulkheads have transformed this course into one of the most sensational challenges on the East Coast.

On your golf outing you can play many of the most feared holes in Myrtle Beach as well as the shortest par four guarded by "Hell's Half-Acre." This is definitely a "target" golf course. It is also a controversial golf course. Moorland will cause the golfer to rise to incredible heights and constantly use every bit of skill and luck in their possession.

Whenever and wherever golfers gather and the discussion turns to "most memorable golf holes," "most surprising golf holes," or even "most feared golf holes," you can be sure that Moorland will be mentioned.

The Parklands at The Legends, completed in October 1992, is modeled after the style of Alister Mackenzie reminiscent of Augusta National & Pine Valley. Distinct by itself, the Parklands is a contrast of natural beauty and a complete experience in the game of golf.

From tee to green, strategy will be the order of the day on this par 72 playing field. Parkland promises to be one of the most challenging courses you'll encounter during your tour of Myrtle Beach.

Golfing specials abound.

“While at Myrtle Beach, in your spare times you will discover why South Carolina's Grand Strand has become a year-round vacation playground visited by 13 million adults and children every year.
